So, what is this? Maybe a good idea? Let’s see.

Rules. Rules are recommendations that you are always free not to follow. In certain cases not following a rule may have more or less severe consequences. Let’s better call them [RecommendationsForParticipation? recommendations for participation] right away as they aren’t but mere recommendations.

Chain-video means a sequence of short videos. The Kettenvideo.de-folks who made it up limit the length of each chain-segment to 2 minutes. No need to care for as people will do it right intuitively, I think. The Kettenvideo-folks say a following segment has to relate in some way to the segment it follows to. True. In some way. They were telling a story together - which is actually difficult, telling one on your own is already difficult. When making a chain of videos more the impressionist way, pictures, moods, dots a hard break can be interesting, just don’t worry. Put what you think is good, when nobody continues your segment but all continue the fork someone started, maybe your idea wasn’t that good finally. Yes, fork whenever btw.

 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5
 1.1 - 1.1.1
 1.2 - 1.2.1 - 1.2.2 - 1.2.3

We need a small picture for every segment so we can display them all in a chart. Ideally you’d define start and finish of the sequence you want to watch and click “download”. Like: start: 1 finish: 1.2.3. Then you go make a cup of tea. Meanwhile your box downloads all six segments. When back with your tea you click play and watch them all six seamlessly. This misses on http://kettenvideo.de/kvuntenB.php. I found it annoying to have to wait for every segment, I whished I could see the whole video without interruption. This is not very urgent but for chain-video to work it’s essential, I think. It also makes sense to think about how to handle it when it isn’t just half a dozen videos that make a 10 minute chain-video-movie anymore but some hundreds of videos as people decided to create a full-length movie together.

I wonder about a chart showing the most popular sequence of segments. Maybe a map even. A newcomer enters, sees the community currently likes segments 1 - best and can (pretty) immediately watch it.

Legal stuff: What is the way to make this work? As little hustle as possible. Are there legal conflicts when combining segments from different sources?

“And the old rusted camera starts crumbling in his hands:
I can’t get the picture!

A successful test. Hmm.
